Important tips to help prolong the life of
your furnace/air conditioning system
Well-maintained heating, cooling,
and humidity control systems contribute to
energy conservation, extend
the life of home furnishings, and enhance your
well-being.
Changing the Filter

Forced-air systems rely on a filter to
clean the air that moves through
the furnace, into the ducts, and back
through the furnace. Determine
which filter works with your furnace and
air-conditioner system and
inspect it for contaminants every 30
days.

Change or clean the filter
every 30 to 60 days for optimum heating
and cooling efficiency.
Built-in Humidifiers

Humidity levels of 40 to 50 percent are
ideal for your health and your
home’s interior surfaces. For
humidifier efficiency, check and clean
humidifier waterways
each time
you check the filter
.
Check Outdoor Units

1. Turn off the air conditioner.

2. Go outside and look at the unit,
checking for any shrubbery, leaves,
grass or dirt that may be impeding the
flow of air from the unit.

3. Remove any such obstructions with a
broom or vacuum cleaner.

4. Check the base pan (under the unit)
and remove any debris that has
accumulated there as well.

5. If there is debris or dirt deep in the
unit you may want to call for service.
